Traditionally, a scholar has brushes, paper, ink sticks and ink slabs or ink stones in his study. By controlling the concentration of ink, the thickness and absorptivity of the paper, and the flexibility of the brush, the artist is free to produce an infinite variety of styles and forms. Today, these craftmen still follow the methods, which their ancestor used hundreds of years ago, to make brushes, paper, ink sticks and ink stones. They are the parts of the art just like Chinese calligraphy and brush paintings.
